Level 6

Design Integration

Brief: Using the existing building of Moseley Road Baths design a post-catastrophic space.

Outcome: An indoor cemetery for people who have been cremated and a memorial space for the missing. This space allows loved ones to grieve and recover through remembering therapy. There are two memorial/ceremony spaces alongside the graves/shrines. There is also a cafe where people can come together through a more informal setting. This design brings death to forefront of conversation and to make the subject easier and less difficult to talk about.

Major Project

Brief: Own design project based on research from dissertation.

Outcome: A micro-apartment block for single occupiers, families and the elderly. Each apartment individually designed for each group using movable walls and partitions. During the design process the use of space was assessed and it was discovered that rooms such as the bedroom are no longer needed once the resident is awake. The apartment block focuses on community and bringing people together through connections. This is able to be achieved through the use of communal spaces such as a kitchen, community hub and garden. These spaces lead to the apartments and makes sure that the residents meet each other and become a community by relying on each other.
